DIY felt matching memory game banner! YOU WILL NEED • Felt sheets in various colours • Rope • Dowel • Craft glue • 1x large piece of felt (1 metre long x 65cm wide) • Sewing needle • Embroidery thread • Fabric scissors 1. Mark out a point on the bottom of your banner with chalk. 2. Cut along your marked line. 3. Place your dowel along the top of the felt and fold it over, then sew it closed with the needle and embroidery thread. 4. Cut rope to desired length, and tie to both sides of the dowel. 5. Using coloured felt, cut out some letters to make the categories for your match game, and some arrows to play! 6. Glue your category headers to the top of your wall hanging. We decided to match artists with their artworks, but you could design your own theme. You could try matching scientists to their inventions or books to their main characters! 7. Now for the fun bit: making the stars of your wall hanging! Each felt artist we made started with 2 eyes, 1 nose, 1 mouth and 2 cheeks glued down onto a head shape. You can use this formula to make any character you like! 8. Using your imagination and various colours of felt, cut and glue di erent accessories to your characters. 9. Keep going until you have enough to fill your wall hanging. We made 5 artists and 5 artworks. We made use of our le over scraps to make the Artists’ famous works. 10. You’re ready to play! Do not glue down your matches so that you can mix them up and test your kids! The Artists we made were – Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Yayoi Kusama, and Rene Magritte. The Art of Christmas Returns to the East End Following the success of the inaugural trail throughout the Adelaide Riverbank in 2017, The Art of Christmasreturns to the East End in 2018 to celebrate the festive season as well as the creativity of the Adelaide Arts sector. Eight South Australian artists will design and create custom Christmas trees that reflect their interpretation of the meaning of Christmas. Inspired by similar creative trails in Europe and the US, the Art of Christmas program has returned to showcase the work of local artists and encourage people to explore the excitement of Lot Fourteen. Located amongst the cultural treasures of North Terrace, nestled against the Adelaide Botanic Garden and a stone’s throw from some of the best restaurants, bars and shopping in the city, Lot Fourteen is one of the most exciting urban redevelopments in the world. Something is always happening at Lot Fourteen, with a curated range of programs to suit anyone and everyone. Whether day or night, there’s events and activities inviting people to come and discover this new destination. More than 30,000 people have already visited Lot Fourteen to attend public events, festivals, pop-ups, and programs. So, Lot Fourteen is the perfect location to showcase this array of innovative and extraordinary artists. The 2017 Art of Christmas program included impressive works and big names and this year’s trail will be no different, with artists such as Seb Humphries, Laura Wills and Anna Dowling putting paint (or other artistic surprises) to festive canvases. A selection of locations within Lot Fourteen have been selected to showcase the artworks to workers on site, local visitors, residents, and tourists. BOWERBIRD IS ON NEXT FRIDAY Visitors to Bowerbird Design Market next week get the chance to seek, explore, find and collect gifts for Christmas! They can also try their hand at a range of creative workshops including activities for small folk, enjoy artisan food and beverages, a Friday night DJ and artistic collaborations. In keeping with the creative energy that will be generated by the 200+ local and interstate designers and makers, the organisers of Bowerbird have scheduled a collection of workshops to inspire and educate visitors. Highlights across the weekend include an indoor plant making session, an interactive gin flight masterclass, the chance to create lino-cut Christmas-themed gift tags, and a pickling class. Plus Cirkidz will be there, conducting half hour circus skills classes for $5. These ticketed events are complemented by free and creative activities for children with Christmas decorations as the theme combining natural materials and wool on the Saturday and air-drying clay on the Sunday. On Friday night join plant guru Emma Sadie Thompson in her Kokedama (aka moss ball) class, Prohibition Liquor Co will present an interactive gin flight masterclass, participants will learn the art of pickling with Pickle in the Middle or a leather goods class thanks to Beccy Bromilow is sure to be popular. The Wait is Over Adelaide’s first nature based aerial adventure park, TreeClimb opens on October 7 for ages 3 to 103, with over 70 obstacles and 7 courses! The park allows for groups of up to 20 climbers harnessed, secured and ready to go every 20 minutes, 7 days a week! Got restless kids climbing up the walls? Maybe you’re barking up the wrong tree. Get them to climb TreeClimb instead! The aerial park will operate in rain, hail or shine in the Kurrangga Park lands on the corner of Greenhill and Unley Roads. I loved being up so high in the trees and we saw some birds and possum poo. I loved the BIG Zip line. Oliver – 12 years old It really gets your adrenaline pumping and is such a rush.
