Nana Huchy teams up with Friends of The Koala to help save a native icon

After years of continuous threats to our national koala population ranging from disease and devastating bushfires to habitat loss, our native icon is now at the brink of extinction.

In an effort to help raise awareness and provide necessary funds to the cause, Australian based toy brand, Nana Huchy, has partnered with non-profit charity organisation Friends of the Koala. From now, $5 from the sale of each Koala soft toy, namely Caz and Keith, will be donated to the charity organisation.

Operating since 1986, Friends of The Koala has an established history of achieving positive outcomes for koalas with a mission to make a key contribution to Australia’s biodiversity by ensuring the conservation of the iconic koala and the preservation and enhancement of koala habitat. A mission that has added importance since the formal declaration of koalas as endangered in early 2022. Making the organisation an obvious choice for beloved toy label, Nana Huchy to team up with.

Known for creating classic toys loved by children globally, Nana Huchy often champions native Australian animals in its collections. Founder, Lucy Morrison said once finding out about the dire circumstances of the koala she couldn’t imagine a world where the only koala was a toy.

“After finding out about the rapid decline of these treasured animals, from being unlisted to vulnerable and now endangered within a mere decade, we knew we had to do something to help. We’re urging Australians to give a gift with meaning and do what they can to help save this one-of-a-kind national icon,” said Lucy Morrison.

“Organisations such as Friends of the Koala are doing such important work to help ensure the endangered species have as much support as possible and in such a holistic sense. From treating injured koalas to habitat restoration and protection, we’re in awe of the work they do and are so happy to be able to do our part.”

Friends of The Koala Volunteer and Training Coordinator Jennifer Ridolfi says donations such as this help bolster the work the organisation does in so many ways.

Every little bit helps towards the work we do, as a volunteer organisation we rely on donations and fundraising to aid in vaccinations, rescue operations, care for sick and injured koalas and so many other aspects of the work we do.

“Given the koala is now an endangered species we are calling on Australia to do its part in protecting the native animal, especially ahead of the bushfire season. Devastating fires tend to rip through koala habitat and increase negative outcomes for our endangered species. Our message to Australia would be to do what you can to help save this native icon,” said Jennifer.

Caz and Keith the Koalas are available to purchase from Nana Huchy online now with $5 from each sale going to Friends of The Koala.
