The Rymill Park Kiosk is back – and it’s going to be a good one

New Rymill Park kiosk café lakeside Adelaide opening September 2026
Adelaide's beloved Rymill Park is getting a new lakeside café this spring, run by the Peter Rabbit team. Here's when it opens and why your family will love it.

If you’ve ever pushed a pram around Rymill Park and thought “this place really needs a good coffee”, your wait is almost over. Adelaide’s newly revitalised Rymill Park is about to get a brand new lakeside café, with the historic park kiosk set to reopen in September 2026 under new management.

The kiosk will be run by the people behind Peter Rabbit, the much-loved Hindley Street café that has built a loyal following for its food, its coffee and its wonderfully off-beat atmosphere. If that’s your reference point, you already have a reasonable idea of what to expect: somewhere with real character, the kind of place that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.

Get a sneak peek during Illuminate Adelaide

You don’t have to wait until spring for a first taste. The kiosk will come to life early for Illuminate Adelaide, opening as a lakeside stop-off from 3 to 19 July, right through the festival’s three-week run. Hot drinks, wine, beer and spritzes will be on offer while you wander the park on a winter evening, which honestly sounds like a pretty good way to spend a cold July night.

For families heading into the city for Illuminate Adelaide’s after-dark program of light and art, Rymill Park is an easy addition to the evening — and having somewhere warm to grab a drink while the kids take it all in makes the whole outing considerably more appealing.

Part of a bigger story for Rymill Park

The kiosk opening is the final piece in a long-running renewal of one of Adelaide’s most popular inner-city parks. Over recent years, the lake has been revitalised, bridges and pathways upgraded, and new lighting and landscaping added throughout. The park already looks beautiful; come September, it will have somewhere to sit down and properly enjoy it.

The kiosk itself has been part of Rymill Park since the 1960s and was a familiar landmark for decades. Its return has been a while coming — owner James McIntyre first secured the venue back in 2019, with COVID and the lake works pushing the timeline out considerably. As he puts it, good things take time.

The row boats are coming back too

This is the detail that will make every parent of young children quietly very happy: the iconic Rymill Park row boats are set to return once the café opens. Lake views, coffee and the chance to muck around on the water with the kids on a spring afternoon? That’s a pretty solid Adelaide outing.

The full café offering is still being finalised, but if the Illuminate activation gives any indication of the vibe Peter Rabbit is going for, it should be well worth the visit when the doors officially open in spring.
