Support new mothers in need at Flourish: A food experience with purpose

Steph Malan of The Village Co and Paul Baker of Chefs on Wheels
Flourish, an extraordinary dining event hosted by Chefs on Wheels, is set to take place on Thursday, November 2, at Victoria Park Social.

This event promises a unique culinary experience with renowned chefs Paul Baker (Former Botanic Restaurant chef and cofounder of Chefs on Wheels), Jake Kellie (Chef at Arkhe), and Jessie Spiby (Masterchef star and owner/founder of My Grandma Ben), and Journalist, author, TV & Radio Presenter, Matt Preston as host and emcee of the evening.

Flourish is not just a culinary delight; it’s a dining experience with a purpose. Guests will be treated to a fine dining experience that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. The talented chefs will create dishes that not only please your palate but also nourish your body and soul. Each course will be paired with exquisite wines, carefully selected to enhance the flavours and elevate the experience. The evening will be filled with entertainment, dancing, and a gin and whisky bar.

Best of all, your participation in Flourish will support The Village Co, a charity that nurtures South Australian new mothers in need of assistance and hope, providing them with the resources they need to flourish during this critical life-altering time.

Stephanie Malan, CEO of The Village Co, expresses her excitement about collaborating with Chefs on Wheels for their first-ever event, Flourish at Victoria Park Social, hosted by Matt Preston next month.

Flourish will be a magnificent dining experience and aims to raise awareness and funds to support the valuable work that The Village Co does for new mothers in South Australia who require assistance and care during their early motherhood journey.

“I am so grateful to Paul Baker, Jake Kellie, Jessie Spiby and our host, Matt Preston for generously volunteering their time and being part of this special event on Thursday 2 November,” Stephanie says.

Paul Baker, Co-Founder of Chefs on Wheels is the driving force behind this event concept and rallied his industry peers to volunteer their time for this extraordinary event. Baker also has the support of many South Australian food and beverage businesses involved in the night.

“I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this event… Chefs on Wheels has been providing new mothers with a week’s worth of meals for over a year now, in partnership with The Village Co,” Paul says.

This event is a celebration on how far we have come in a short amount of time, and a showcase of just how far this initiative can go to support some of the most vulnerable in our community when they need it most.

Proceeds raised on the evening go directly to The Village Co to continue supporting South Australian new mothers and ensuring no new mother leaves the hospital unprepared and overwhelmed.

The Village Co’s impact

Over the past 12 months, 941 South Australian women have been supported by The Village Co’s services, that’s approximately 90 mothers per month.

192 South Australian volunteers have dedicated time to lovingly pack over 700 gift bags for vulnerable new mothers.

Over $300,000 of in-kind donations have been generously provided.
