Jay Laga’aia and his children to perform Carols by Candlelight

Australian showbusiness icon, Jay Laga’aia is set to return to SeaLink Carols by Candlelight with two of his eight children.

Joining Laga’aia on stage in a Carols first, will be 22 year old Nathaniel and 14 year old Bella, both keen to follow in their father’s entertainment career footsteps.

Jay, who is thrilled to return to the Adelaide Carols concert in 2023 with his children, says. “Adelaide Carols is so important to me. We are creating life memories for families who come every year. We are tradition. This is the time of year when we gather our loved ones together for Christmas and one of the key ingredients to having a Merry Christmas is SeaLink Carols by Candlelight.”

I am so pleased because this year I get to bring along two of my kids, Nathaniel and Bella to share in this tradition.

Of Jay’s eight children, five are actively pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. One is currently on tour with Hamilton, the Musical in Manila, and one will soon start rehearsals on a national tour of Rent, the musical. Jay’s 18-year-old daughter is currently in a production of Heathers, in Sydney, while his 14 and 16-year-old daughters have recently performed at this year’s NSW Schools Spectacular, as featured artists and hosts.

“When my children started showing interest in the performing arts I was worried. I know how hard this job is. I’ve been working as a performer since 1982. It wasn’t until I spoke to my wife, who reminded me that this could be their forever job and who are we to stand in their way. As a parent, we can only support our kids in their endeavours knowing that they too are chasing their dreams,” adds Jay.

Australian music legend, Paul Kelly will also perform Silent Night as part of this year’s Carols concert, with Casey Donovan, Beccy Cole, Paulini, Amber Lawrence, Rachael Beck, Matt Evans, Harrison Craig, Gospo Collective, stars from Stater Opera South Australia, also to take to the stage.

The SeaLink Carols by Candlelight is returning to Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama for its 79th year on Saturday, 9 December. The concert begins at 8.15pm, with entertainment throughout the afternoon from 2.00pm including the City of Adelaide pre-show concert from 5.00pm featuring an array of local artists.

7two and 7Plus will also broadcast the concert nationally on Sunday 10 December and again on Seven on Christmas Day.
