At Walford, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our Year 7 program is designed to provide a rich and balanced experience, where every girl is supported to try new things, build skills, and find where she belongs.

A Broad and Engaging Curriculum

Year 7 students engage in a diverse range of subjects that build strong academic foundations while encouraging curiosity and creativity. From core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, to Languages (French and Mandarin), the Arts, and Technologies, students experience a curriculum that is rigorous and engaging.

This breadth allows each girl to explore new areas of interest and begin to identify her strengths as a learner.

Sport and Physical Wellbeing

Sport plays an important role in the Year 7 experience at Walford. With a wide range of team and individual sports on offer such as netball, hockey, football, rowing, athletics, and swimming, girls are encouraged to be active, build teamwork, and develop resilience through participation.

With access to outstanding facilities—including five sports courts, outdoor swimming pool, a Sports Centre, high performance gym, playing field, and rowing facilities—students are supported at every level, from participation through to high performance.

For those with a passion for sport, the Walford High Performance Athlete Academy provides tailored support for students competing or aspiring to compete at an elite level, helping them balance training and academic commitments while striving for excellence.

Music: A Thriving Performance Program

Walford’s music program is a vibrant and highly visible part of school life. With over 20 ensembles and bands, students have extensive opportunities to be involved—whether through orchestras, choirs, chamber groups, or contemporary ensembles.

Regular performances, concerts, and community events allow girls to build confidence, collaborate with others, and experience the joy of performing as part of a musical community.

Co-Curricular and Enrichment Opportunities

Year 7 students can choose from a diverse array of clubs and enrichment opportunities spanning STEM, the Arts, academic competitions, and leadership. Opportunities include Robotics and Coding clubs, Debating and Public Speaking, Tournament of Minds, Science and Mathematics competitions, Model United Nations, and environmental initiatives.

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves through activities such as the da Vinci Decathlon, Oliphant Science Awards, and national academic competitions, thereby building problem-solving skills, confidence, and a love of learning.

This breadth of opportunity allows every girl to find her place—whether she is drawn to innovation, creativity, critical thinking, or collaboration. Through participation, students develop leadership, teamwork, and initiative, while discovering new passions and strengths.

This early focus on leadership lays the foundation for future roles and opportunities, empowering each girl to grow into a confident and capable leader.

Walford’s culture of involvement is underpinned by a supportive environment in which each girl is known, valued, and encouraged to pursue her interests and passions.

Growing Confidence and Independence

Through these varied experiences, Year 7 students develop confidence, resilience, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. They are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, try new activities, and take ownership of their learning and involvement.
