Walford opens Mabel Jewell Baker House for Year 7 students

Walford School, Adelaide.

A significant milestone in our campus renewal journey and an exciting new chapter for our students, the House offers a vibrant hub of learning, connection, and belonging. Light-filled classrooms, adaptable learning spaces, and inviting indoor and outdoor areas provide opportunities for collaboration, independent thinking, and meaningful engagement.

Year 7 at Walford is a unique and important stage of a student’s journey. It marks the transition into Senior School—a time when students are supported to grow in confidence, develop strong relationships, and embrace new academic challenges. The Mabel Jewell Baker House has been designed specifically to support this transition, offering an environment where students feel known, supported, and inspired.

Within this space, students experience a dynamic and connected approach to learning. They move between collaborative group work and focused individual study, engage with teachers in flexible settings, and benefit from an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a sense of ownership over their learning.

Beyond the classroom, the House fosters a strong sense of community. Shared spaces and connections to the Heart of Walford create opportunities for students to build friendships, feel a sense of belonging, and confidently take their place within the Senior School.

The opening of the Mabel Jewell Baker House reflects Walford’s commitment to providing exceptional learning environments that honour our history while embracing the future. It is a space where our Year 7 students can thrive—academically, socially, and personally—as they begin this important next chapter.
