A music immersion experience

Tis the season of balmy summer nights, Christmas lights and a joyous sense of community. To uphold the seasonal tradition of neighbourly kindness, twenty-eight music students are spreading their wings and taking to Kangaroo Island from Friday 3 December to Thursday 9 December for a different take on a Music Immersion experience.

St Mary’s presents a Holiday Spectacular

Two years after the Black Summer bushfires and after another year entrenched in pandemic related uncertainty, the College is taking its passion for music to the Island for a holiday spectacular. The students will come together to showcase their brilliant best with a little bit of everything for the KI locals. From choirs to instrumental ensembles and encompassing traditional through to jazz and contemporary music, the 2021 Music Tour aims to be as much about service as performance, delivering Christmas joy in a series of performance events.

Students will perform at the Carol’s Community Event at Lloyd Collins Reserve, Penneshaw, the Penneshaw Markets, and Kingscote, Penneshaw and Parndana Campus of Kangaroo Island Community Education. The Music Tour wouldn’t be complete without dedicated staff to support our students, led by Director of Music, Sue Rodger.

Supporting Local

With the motto of ‘holiday at home’, they hope to play their part in supporting local SA tourism and businesses as the Tour group explores everything KI has to offer with day trips to Chase National Park, Seal Bay and Vivonne Bay.

It wouldn’t be a St Mary’s trip without an old scholar connection. During part of their stay at the Oceanfront Backpackers, the group is looking forward to catching up with KI resident, alumnae and past parent, Rose Burracchio (nee Zampogna, Class of 2000), owned by Rose and her husband, Michael.

St Mary’s College hope the students gain a real-world sense of community and the holiday season’s flair for welcoming passions and gifting joy.

So, hark! Hear the St Mary’s angel students sing and play to bring Christmas cheer to a very special holiday season.
