Press Play: Sensory concert for kids at Fringe

A fantastic new experience at the Adelaide Fringe, Press Play is a sensory-friendly, interactive live music concert specially made for children aged 0-7 years.

With original music and lots of fun activities, this exciting show is designed to create “a sensory playground for kids of all abilities,” says Alice Orchard, the show’s creator and a talented musician from Adelaide.

The concert is packed with fun activities like playing musical instruments, dancing, and doing paper crafts. There are songs that spark imagination and are designed to engage all your senses – from touch and sight to sound.

One of the first songs invites kids to explore a magical chime forest where they can play gentle wind chimes in the chime “trees.” Alice explains, “We keep it quiet and relaxing – no loud sounds! There are also movement songs like Butterfly Yoga, which is our very first single, and a song for making something special. The whole show is designed to be fun and silly while helping kids engage in a positive way.”

Alice Orchard is a Music Therapist and songwriter, and she created this show after working with young children. She says, “I started writing music for kids about three years ago. As a late-identified autistic person and a parent, educator, and therapist, I wanted to make a show that is inclusive of all abilities and welcoming to neurodivergent audiences.”

Each 45-minute show is a “relaxed performance,” meaning children can move around, sing, play, and interact with the music as it happens.

Alice will perform with the wonderful Amy Wyatt, an actor and singer from Adelaide who has previously performed with So Popera and the Roo Theatre Company. The pair are also gaining a following on Alice’s YouTube channel, /@aliceorchardmusic, where they perform their original songs live.

Their first single, Butterfly Yoga, will be released on YouTube on 31st January, and tickets for Press Play are available now at Press Play Tickets.

Press Play will premiere at the Marion Cultural Centre on Sunday 9th and Sunday 16th March, with tickets available through Fringetix here.
