There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly picked strawberries. And, not to be biased, but we think Beerenberg Farm has just about got the best strawberries on earth. Juicy, ripe, and packed with sweetness and flavour, Beerenberg strawberries are nothing like any you’ve tasted before.

The team at Beerenberg Farm have been running strawberry picking at their strawberry farm just outside of Hahndorf since 1975, and have never missed a strawberry picking season. It’s become an Adelaide institution, with thousands of people enjoying the simple pleasure of strawberry picking every strawberry season (November to April).

It’s truly the perfect day out for family and friends to enjoy; breathing in the fresh air of the patch and hunting for that perfect strawberry. When you visit the strawberry patch, you can also stock up on all your favourite sauces, relishes, chutneys, jams and dressings in the Beerenberg farm shop.

Located in the heritage town of Hahndorf, just 30 minutes from Adelaide, Beerenberg is a must-do when in the area.

The team at the @Lenswood purchased their orchard from 6th generation apple farmers who are famous in the district so be assured, these apples have quite the pedigree!

The Lenswood apples are not the apples you find in the supermarket – you’re truly missing out if you’ve never eaten an apple straight off the tree whilst walking through an orchard! And showing kids that fruit doesn’t have to look perfect to taste amazing is such an important lesson to teach.

The @Lenswood pick your own farm is 40 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD via a beautiful scenic drive through Lobethal Road. After you have picked your apples why not support our local neighbours Mount Lofty Rangers Vineyards only 300m up the road. Woodside, Lobethal, Charleston, Hahndorf and other beautiful Adelaide Hills towns are just a stones throw away.

Pick your own cherries at Fleurieu Cherries

Making memories never tasted so good, and this is a family activity ripe for the pickin’! 50 minutes from Adelaide on the Southern Expressway, Fleurieu Cherries have up to 20 different cherry varieties available including both sweet and sour cherries – most varieties are available to pick if you have the time to find them – so head there and make a day of it! You’ll be surprised how the subtle differences in flavour of each type can even be detected by even the littlest cherry pickers.

Fleurieu Cherries offer pick-your-own on certain days only – depending on what fruit is ready and the weather forecast.

Before you travel to the farm gate, make sure to check the website to confirm if pick-your-own is available, as circumstances can change rapidly… ripe fruit for that day may have been picked by early afternoon!

Pick your own Blueberries at The Blueberry Patch in Mount Compass

The Blueberry Patch has a small farm shop and a few picnic tables under the trees at their property in Mount Compass, The family operators harvest around 9000 bushes (from a range of varieties) over four hectares. Pick-your-own customers may bring their own containers or the orchard can supply 2 or 4 litre ice cream tubs. Containers are weighed prior to filling so that the customers are charged only for the weight of the fruit picked.
