Looking for a reason to finally tick Adelaide Zoo off the school holiday to-do list? Here it is: throughout August, kids aged 14 and under get free entry to celebrate the birthdays of our beloved Giant Pandas.
Yi Lan turns five on 10 August, and Xing Qiu marks his sixth birthday on 29 September. To honour the zoo’s favourite black-and-white residents, Adelaide Zoo is throwing open the gates for free child admission all month long.

What to see and do
Beyond spending quality time watching Yi Lan and Xing Qiu munch their way through bamboo, your family can explore over 200 species from Australia and around the world. From native favourites to exotic creatures, there’s plenty to keep curious kids entertained.
New this year is the Wild Explore VR Experience, now running in the Panda Shop. It’s a chance for kids to step into immersive wildlife adventures without leaving the zoo grounds.

How to book
Free child tickets are valid from 1 to 31 August 2026. You can book online in advance or grab tickets at the admission window on the day. Terms and conditions apply.
With winter wrapping up and spring on the horizon, August is the perfect time to rug up and explore the zoo at a quieter pace. The pandas are particularly active in cooler weather, so you might just catch them at their playful best.
