These winter school holidays, Adelaide Zoo is taking families on a prehistoric adventure that connects the ancient world to the incredible animals living at the zoo today.

Ancient Animals runs from Saturday 4 July to Sunday 19 July 2026 and invites kids to travel millions of years back in time and discover the surprising links between prehistoric giants and their modern descendants.

Visitors can compare the towering Brachiosaurus with the zoo’s resident giraffes, uncover what sabre-tooth cats have in common with Sumatran tigers, and trace how ancient swimmers evolved into today’s little penguins.

Along the way, kids can complete a prehistoric scavenger quest, take on dinosaur-themed activities, and learn how animals have adapted and evolved over millions of years.

It’s a roaring good time for the whole family and a brilliant way to make the most of the July school holidays.
