South Australia is getting its very first SA Giving Week this May, and it’s a great opportunity for families to talk to kids about the power of giving back to their community.
Running from 4 to 8 May 2026, SA Giving Week brings together charities, not-for-profits, businesses and philanthropy organisations to encourage more South Australians to support causes close to their hearts.
The initiative was founded by Kay Burton, who says South Australians already have a strong tradition of generosity through volunteering, community support and everyday acts of kindness. SA Giving Week is about making it even easier to get involved in ways that feel meaningful.
South Australia is home to more than 7% of Australia’s charities, with the sector contributing close to $10 billion to the state’s economy each year. Even small acts of giving, the organisers say, can have a significant ripple effect across local communities.
Throughout the week, South Australians are invited to participate in events, hear inspiring stories, and use the GiveSA platform (formerly Funded) to discover local charity projects they can support.
SA Giving Week is led by SA Philanthropy Network, Foundation SA, Philanthropy Australia and Creative Australia.
