Well after COVID delays and a lamentable lockdown – Bowerbird Design Market has been officially rescheduled, (third time’s a charm!) with doors opening at the Adelaide Showgrounds 11-13 December! Perfect timing to buy local and get some things ticked off your Christmas list.
Support local Aussie designers
Market goers will have the opportunity to wander and explore the stalls, and with a huge array of creators in the Bowerbird line-up, there has never been a better time to hit the design markets.
With colour and clothes, from books to baby gear, as well as – of course – some gorgeous picks for parents too, all the i’s are dotted and all the t’s are crossed at Bowerbird for the whole fam! And you can get involved in creative workshops and tutorials too if it tickles your fancy… or if you’re anything like me, you’ll kinda go for the FOOD too!
KIDDO PICKS FOR BOWERBIRD
ANiMOZ
Joel Howland, a student of Animal Science has created this collectible card game, ANiMOZ – to engage kids with Australian wildlife, and teach them about the dangers our animals face. A portion of proceeds go straight into conservation work in the field.
This game is educational and for all ages, ANiMOZ engages players with Australian wildlife, highlighting superpowers that each species has in the real world!
Claire Ishino
Claire Ishino works from her home-studio here in Adelaide and produces original gouache or acrylic paintings and black and white ink drawings.
From these original works, she makes limited edition prints and also produces a range of greeting cards. Her range of colourful, graphic interpretations of Australian natives and other botanical forms is also used in collaborative work with local creatives who apply her art to functional and sustainable products.
Fede
Fede is a sustainable range of playful fabric creations made and designed by Fee Dyer in her home based studio in Adelaide. The brand is exclusively constructed from vintage, upcycled and remnant materials mixed with a dash of whimsy.
The fede range is ethically created using only found fabrics that have been discarded by others and potentially heading to landfill. They challenge the perception that reused materials are past their use by date. Fede hopes to inspire buyers to ditch plastic toys and fast fashion to shop with purpose.
Indi & Frey
Indi & Frey create deluxe teething accessories crafted with dual functionality; the perfect size and shape for babies to grasp and chew and to aid babies with gross motor development and co-ordination.
The products are made from silicone and wood, available in fun colour ways and can also be personalised.
Jade & Frankie
Jade & Frankie is the work of Clare Burton – an Australian fibre artist creating unique and colourful woven wall hangings for your home.
Using yarn and fibres to create textural pieces for lovers of handcrafted decor looking for unique art for their home.
Mini Dreamers
Mini Dreamers are a mother-daughter team who write and illustrate children’s books with meaning. The range also includes a modern and fun twist on the traditional baby record journal.
All products are printed in Adelaide and are made from ethically sourced, environmentally friendly paper from sustainable forests and printed using environmentally friendly vegetable based inks.
Mini Mad Things
At Mini Mad Things, it’s all about play. The aim is to help children see the magic in the world and to be part of it with fascinating costumes and enchanting accessories for imaginative play.
What’s the rush to grow up?
Miniz by Me
Miniz By Me is a range miniature soft toys, with clothing and homes to match. The materials are sourced locally and recycled items incorporated where possible.
Miniz By Me create unique, timeless toys for children to stimulate their imagination and encourage play. To maintain the uniqueness of these toys, only limited numbers of each design, are made.
