Meet Rosie the Roo, the mould-safe baby teether from Jeanie Baby

Australian brand Jeanie Baby has designed a natural rubber teether with a sealed squeaker, so there's no sneaky gap for mould to grow.

Any parent who’s ever squeezed a squeaky bath toy and watched murky water dribble out knows the feeling. Then comes the slow realisation: that same toy has been in the baby’s mouth all week. Mould hiding inside squeaky toys and teethers is a common worry for parents, and it’s the problem Australian brand Jeanie Baby set out to solve with its new natural rubber teether, Rosie the Roo.

A squeak without the hole

Most squeaky teethers have a small hole that lets air in and out to make the noise. That hole also lets in saliva and bathwater, and moisture trapped inside a toy is an ideal place for mould to grow.

Rosie the Roo has a fully enclosed, hole-free squeaker. She still squeaks, but there’s no gap for moisture to sneak into. It’s a small design change that makes a big difference to how easy she is to keep clean.

Made for curious little hands (and mouths)

Rosie is made from natural rubber from the Hevea tree, which is soft and bendy and has a gentle, natural scent. Jeanie Baby designed her to engage all five senses: there are different textures for little fingers to explore, contrast details to catch a baby’s eye, easy-grip points for small hands, and the squeaker for sound.

There are also several chew zones, so teething babies can work on sore gums from different angles. Her kangaroo shape is an added bonus for Aussie families. She’d make a lovely gift for overseas relatives, too.

Keeping teethers clean

Even with a sealed design, teethers need regular cleaning. Wash Rosie in warm, soapy water after use and let her dry fully before putting her away.

A few general teether safety tips:

  • Check teethers regularly for cracks, tears or loose pieces, and replace them if there’s any damage.
  • Supervise babies while they’re using teething toys.
  • Avoid natural rubber if your family has a latex allergy, as natural rubber contains latex.

Who’s behind Rosie?

Jeanie Baby is an Australian-owned and designed brand that also makes baby feeding essentials, including sectioned plates, bowls and straw cups in soft, earthy colours like sage, mauve and caramel.
