Theatre Review: Wonderverse by Patch Theatre

FAMILY-FRIENDLY THEATRE REVIEW: KIDDO reviewer, Katie, took her kiddo to see Wonderverse presented by Patch Theatre at Bonython Hall, Adelaide.

WORDS: Katie Brown

On the weekend, we ventured into the world of Wonderverse by Patch Theatre, and let us tell you – it was a wild, cosmic ride! Held at the University of Adelaide’s iconic Bonython Hall, this show takes the audience on a dazzling journey through the stars, encouraging kids to explore the mysteries of the universe with wide-eyed wonder and limitless imagination.

From the moment we walked in, the space was buzzing with excitement. Bonython Hall was transformed into a shimmering galaxy, setting the stage for an out of this world experience. The lights dimmed, and suddenly, we were rocketing off into the unknown with a cast that brought the universe to life.

Our three-year-old reviewer gave Wonderverse a million-star rating! Her personal highlights were jumping on the lights, making music and dancing, and seeing the sky float above her. The interactive elements were a big hit, as little audience members got to participate, feel part of the action, and even help shape the adventure.

Patch Theatre’s signature blend of visual storytelling and sensory play was on full display – think glowing planets, swirling nebulae, and a soundtrack that had us all feeling like we were floating in zero gravity. The performers brought a contagious energy, capturing the attention of kids and parents alike. There were plenty of giggles, gasps, and “Wow, look at that!” moments that kept everyone glued to the stage.

But Wonderverse wasn’t just about the spectacle – it had heart too. The story gently nudged us to think about our place in the cosmos, the power of curiosity, and the joy of asking “what if?” There were themes of friendship, courage, and the thrill of discovery, all wrapped up in a cosmic package that made it both thought-provoking and fun.

If you are looking for a show that will ignite your child’s imagination and leave them dreaming about the stars long after the curtain falls, Wonderverse is a must see. Patch Theatre has once again proven why they are masters of creating magical theatre for young audiences, bringing stories to life in ways that feel fresh, fun, and full of heart.
