The live children’s show Meg and the Magic Toyshop is a cheerful and interactive theatre experience designed especially for younger audiences (think 2-6 year olds). Running for around 40 minutes, the production is simple yet engaging and a perfect length for preschoolers and early primary school kids who might be experiencing live theatre for the first time.

The story centres on Meg, a bubbly doll who is brought to life in a magical toyshop, along with her friend Penny the Toy Soldier. Before opening time at the shop, Meg discovers something important has gone missing- one of her gloves. The two friends set off on an adventure around the toyshop to try and find it. Along the way the pair use dance, song, and audience interaction while thoughtfully incorporating Auslan throughout the performance creating a rich and inclusive show that is both educational and full of joy.

The set is bright and playful, filled with oversized toys and colourful props that capture the imagination without overwhelming young audiences. The intimate venue at The Kingfisher in Gluttony allows children to sit close to the stage and feel part of the adventure.

Audience participation is a highlight, with children invited to clap, move, and join in the fun. The performers have a warm, welcoming energy that encourages all the children to engage naturally. This playful interaction keeps the energy lively and ensures everyone feels included.

The show also gently introduces lessons about teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience. Meg and Penny’s quest to find the missing glove carries positive messages, while the incorporation of Auslan adds an accessible and educational element. The performance balances fun and learning in a way that feels seamless and enjoyable.

By the end of the show, the audience is fully invested in Meg and Penny’s journey, sharing in the joy of discovery and the magic of the toyshop. It’s a heartwarming experience that introduces little ones to theatre in a personal and approachable way.

For families with children aged 2 to 6, Meg and the Magic Toyshop is a delightful outing- colourful, interactive, and full of imagination. It’s a show that leaves kids smiling, engaged, and inspired by the magic of storytelling.
