Adelaide Fringe Review: 80’s Ladies

MUMS' NIGHT OUT ADELAIDE FRINGE REVIEW: Nothing says mums' night out like 80's Ladies and that's exactly what KIDDO Reviewer, Suze, had with the lavish, non-stop celebration of some of the biggest hits from 80's ladies at Adelaide Fringe.

WORDS: Suze Harrington

Ahhh…the 80’s. Neon colours, shoulder pads, crimpers, side ponytails, walkmans…and stellar tunes. For a trip down memory lane with all the trimmings, you can’t go past 80’s Ladies.

Chloe Castledine, known around town for her versatile vocal abilities, has curated a big setlist that rivals the big hair it’s performed under. Showcasing many of the female powerhouses of the 80’s, Chloe seamlessly transitions through hit after hit, emphasizing her team’s talent for creating a fast paced, high energy show.

Backed by the incredible, energetic Impact Entertainment dancers as well as a live band from The Cast, Chloe sang through chart busters such as ‘It’s Raining Men’, ‘Eternal Flame’, ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’, and ‘Material Girl’.

Simple, yet effective, costume changes transformed Castledine from Kylie to Olivia Newton-John to Madonna across the night, and there was no shortage of taffeta and slouch socks on the dancers.

Chloe commands the stage brilliantly, yet willingly shares the spotlight, highlighting the vocal capabilities of others in The Cast as well as giving some of the dancers their moment to shine. Even Ali Carle from 102.3 took to the stage in a fun-filled rendition of Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’.

This feel good show had everyone singing along, and for the second half particularly, dancing along too. Whether it’s nostalgia or purely the talent onstage, there is an upbeat energy that carries you away to that other time and place. Vocally and visually, this show had it all – colour, originality, creativity and fun. Ever the consummate professional, not even a wardrobe malfunction could shake Castledine as she belted out the final number.

For an evening of big smiles, big hair and big voices – grab some girlfriends and party with the 80’s Ladies. Crimped hair optional but encouraged.
