This month, Chefs on Wheels will launch its new social enterprise program, A Nourished Week, in collaboration with fellow South Australian organisation The Village Co. The partnership is set to provide over seven hundred delicious Chefs on Wheels meals and side dishes to more than sixty vulnerable new mothers and their families in South Australia in the first month. This figure is expected to reach over one hundred families per month going forward, with the support of community and corporate donations.
Chefs on Wheels (CoW) Co-Founder and Executive Chef, Paul Baker developed A Nourished Week (ANW) with Co-Founders Annabelle Baker and Jimmy Day, with the clear mission to provide nutritious meals to Australian families in need. The Chefs on Wheels Co-Founders have long been passionate advocates for social enterprise and are thrilled to launch CoW’s own initiative with The Village Co.
“We are extremely proud to be able to provide quality food to Australian families in need through the inception of A Nourished Week. Our collaboration with The Village Co delivers an exciting launch pad for the future impact of the program and will provide new parents experiencing hardship after the birth of a baby a full week off from worrying about what’s for dinner”
ANW will enable The Village Co to supply a meal voucher valued at over $300 directly to vulnerable mothers after giving birth to their baby, through its existing bag gifting program. The voucher will allow a family to order seven days’ worth of meals directly from Chefs on Wheels online, which will then be delivered to their door.
Founder and CEO of The Village Co, Stephanie Malan, explains “The support from far and wide for The Village Co. is incredibly inspiring, and I am deeply touched by the outstanding generosity from Chefs on Wheels in establishing A Nourished Week. It is amazing to be able to offer vulnerable new mothers and their families a week’s worth of delicious meals through our existing bag gifting program. It is truly the most the most heart-warming gift.”
“Empowering new mothers with kindness and generosity is The Village Co.’s reason for being. The unfortunate reality for many struggling young families is that vital supplies, essential in the early days of parenthood, are not readily accessible. This is a time when your village is critical.”
“Community and corporate partner funding is essential for this program, and every dollar donated to ANW through The Village Co website will directly feed these families,” says Stephanie.
