SA’s Banana Boogie Bakery wins Best Vanilla Slice in Australia

Belair’s Banana Boogie Bakery has just made history by winning the title of Australia’s best vanilla slice, becoming the first South Australian bakery to take home the trophy.

This victory at the 2024 Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph, held in Merbein, Victoria, is a significant achievement for the small bakery that has captured the hearts—and taste buds—of locals and beyond.

In a true testament to their dedication, the Boogie bakers packed up their equipment and travelled to Mildura, where they teamed up with their friends at Sunraysia Bread & Butter bakery. There, they baked their vanilla slices on the eve of the competition to ensure their creations were as fresh and delicious as possible for Saturday’s judging.

Last year, Banana Boogie Bakery came in third after a long break from the competition’s podium. This year, they were determined to win, and their efforts paid off in spectacular fashion. Known for their perfect balance of crisp pastry, smooth custard, and flawless icing, the bakery’s vanilla slice wowed the judges and earned them the coveted top spot.

This win is particularly special, as no other South Australian bakery has ever won the competition. Banana Boogie Bakery’s success not only highlights their skill but also cements their place as the most successful SA contender in the history of the event.

Owner and baker Jason Spencer, along with his team, has poured his passion into every layer of this classic treat. The victory is a well-deserved reward for their hard work and a shining moment for South Australia’s food scene.

So, if you haven’t already, make sure to visit Banana Boogie Bakery and try the best vanilla slice in Australia.
