Home of Christmas returns: Magic Cave opens at David Jones

The exuberant joy that only Christmas can bring returns to David Jones as the famed Magic Cave enthralls children across Adelaide once more.

David Jones’ Adelaide Central Plaza store will commence celebrations when Father Christmas arrives at the Magic Cave this Saturday, 4th November, creating special memories for families with greetings and photo opportunities available up until Christmas Eve.

Sandra Celentano, David Jones Adelaide Central Plaza Store Manager, says, “It simply wouldn’t be Christmas in Adelaide without the David Jones Magic Cave, with the enchantment featuring things to delight both young and old. The vintage carousel’s grandeur cannot be mistaken, while children will be awed by a Christmas fairy as they wait patiently to meet Father Christmas.

Whether you stop by after a long day of Christmas shopping or make a special trip to the city for a day of family fun, the Magic Cave, conveniently located in the centre of Rundle Mall, is a festive season essential.

Guests are invited to take a seat alongside Father Christmas in a captivating world celebrating festive cheer, with full-service-photographers capturing the special memory for families to treasure both now and in years to come. Roving carollers, the Toy Soldier Troupe and a DJ for in-store entertainment will add to the excitement of the festive season.

On Friday 10th and 17th November, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, Santa PAWtraits sessions make a return as one of the multiple package options available for the ultimate festive experience, which also includes Sensitive Santa, and standard sessions. At all sessions in 2023, guests will receive houndstooth reindeer antlers as David Jones’ gift to customers, as well their photo displayed in a custom David Jones frame.

Father Christmas will take up residence in the Magic Cave, which is on level two of David Jones Adelaide Central Plaza, every day from Saturday, 4th November until Christmas Eve, with bookings encouraged.

The Magic Cave has been part of Adelaide’s Christmas celebrations since 1896, when it was established in popular local department store John Martin’s. Today, the traditions of the Magic Cave still stand, supporting cultural heritage and providing a community experience full of joy for families.

But the fun doesn’t stay in the Magic Cave. Throughout the Adelaide Central Plaza store, gift experts will give tips on the latest and greatest products David Jones has to offer. In addition, virtual gift experts and virtual stylists will be available to book by appointment. Customers can also try the online gift guide to source the perfect gift in under a minute.

Customers are invited to make a gold coin donation to the Starlight Children’s Foundation again this festive season, a chosen partner of David Jones. Helping grant the wishes of sick kids and their families this Christmas can be done through direct donations or donating the $2 fee for David Jones’ bespoke Christmas gift wrapping in store.
