As parents, we get it. Choosing a school is hard. So when families ask us what makes Good Shepherd different, we try to be as real as possible. For us, it starts with relationships. We want to know your child. Not just their name, but what they enjoy, what they find tricky, what makes them light up, so that from ELC right through to Year 6 they feel seen and part of one connected, caring community.
Their start begins in Curiosity ELC, where we draw on the Reggio Emilia philosophy to nurture each child’s natural curiosity through play-based learning, while recognising and celebrating every child’s God-given gifts. Just as importantly, we work in true partnership with families. You know your child best, and together we make sure they feel safe, secure and ready when they transition into school.

As children move into the primary years, that same sense of care continues alongside a clear, purposeful focus on learning. We’re intentional about building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. Programs like Playberry for literacy and Learning Through Doing and Bond Blocks for maths give children practical, structured ways to develop skills that really stick.
Our classrooms look a bit different too. Multi-age groupings, plus co-educators and learning enrichment specialists working alongside teachers, create a strong sense of connection and collaboration. Students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically and apply what they’re learning to the world outside the classroom.

We also keep a close eye on where each student is at, so we can step in when needed, extend them when they’re ready, and make sure no one is left behind. Every child learns differently, and we try to respond to that in practical, supportive ways. Behind the scenes, our teachers are always learning too. Through ongoing professional learning, they work together, share ideas and keep refining their practice.
Ultimately, what makes Good Shepherd different is not just what we do, but how we do it, with care, intention, and a deep belief in every child’s potential.
