Torrensville Community Childcare Centre: A home away from home

At Torrensville Community Childcare Centre we provide children with a home away from home. A safe, fun, and engaging space where their happiness, education and wellbeing are our focus and passion.

We foster a sense of community and belonging and nurture precious minds and young hearts to thrive, with joy and wonder.

We have been the local trusted community childcare centre for Torresnville and surrounds for over 20 years. We have nurtured children from babies and watched them grow into confident kindy children, ready to take on their next adventure in life.

“I treat every child like they are my own, to develop that strong bond. Fostering their imagination, letting them express their personality and sharing in their unique way of interacting with the world,” Educator Annie.

We have bonded with families throughout the years, where friends have become the family we choose. Family values drive us. We pride ourselves on the meaningful relationships we have developed with the families throughout the generations. Some of our educators have been caring for two generations from the one family, developing relationships with families for over 25 years.  It is a privilege to care for children and we value the trust that our families place in us.

“Being a small part in a child’s life, in a moment in time, is an honor. The positive feedback I receive from parents makes me want to try harder, it gives me the satisfaction to help families more. It is very fulfilling helping them with their basic needs each day and they give you back unconditional love,”Educator Lijia.

We believe children learn best through play based programs. We incorporate learnings through fun activities that are collaborative and responsive to the everyday flow of experiences for children and our educators. Our educators involve our children in the ideas to design and implement play based activities, so they can discover, create, improvise, test theories, imagine and engage with each other.

We are very lucky that our children have the opportunity to explore and play in our large purpose designed outdoor areas with a sandpit and nature play activities. We believe in the fun and wellbeing benefits of children being outdoors, feeling the fresh air and interacting with nature.

The children have so much energy and such inquisitive natures, they bring so much light and playfulness to the ambience of the centre and they have a unique ability to reflect and respond back to the positive energy and happiness from our educators.

“I love watching the children grow and learn and seeing how my influence on their education is brought into their everyday life. That is my purpose, I always give my 100% as it is so fulfilling to me. We all learn from each other and support each other to be better and to flourish,” Educator Sophie.

Our educators implement the Early Years Framework which focuses on the philosophy that childhood is a time of “belonging, being and becoming”. In partnership with families we create learning programs responsive to children’s ideas, interests, strengths and abilities and recognise that children learn through play. The centre also adheres to the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority’s National Quality Framework.

“I am passionate about helping children to identify challenges early on in their development and how I can be inclusive to their needs and support them to set them up for success before they start school,” Educator Isabelle.

We have such a diverse mix of cultures, nationalities and backgrounds of our families that attend our centre, which makes for such an enriched experience for the children. Our educators are also from a range of differing cultural backgrounds, who can speak 11 different languages between them. We are regularly teaching our children about the world and other cultures, and food is one way to learn about culture.

We provide nutritious meals for the children and cook and plan the menus around seasonal produce. Our cook Jaira has a simple philosophy in letting the children taste food with different flavours, to expand their choices, she is regularly changing the menu, to keep them interested in the food and to taste something new.

“I enjoy being creative for the children, coming up with new ideas for meals, that they will eat and enjoy. They keep me challenged in the kitchen, I learn more and more from them, always learning and experimenting, to give them the best meal choices,” Cook Jaira.

Torrensville Community Childcare Centre caters for babies from six weeks to school age children.
