Torrens Valley Christian School (TVCS) is buzzing with excitement after the official completion of its brand-new nature play space, a one-of-a-kind outdoor area that encourages creativity, curiosity, and connection with the natural world.

Finished in Term 3, 2025, the custom-designed play space was built by Climbing Tree, who worked closely with primary students and school leadership to create something truly special.

“Our deep hope was to develop a play space that promotes a love of playing and learning outdoors, in God’s creation,” says Principal Emily Brookes.

“We wanted an engaging space that provokes creativity and offers child-led opportunities for discovery and growth. The result is something truly special for our community.”

Nature play is all about giving kids the chance to explore, imagine and lead their own adventures in a natural environment. It supports everything from emotional wellbeing and social development, to physical skills and problem-solving—all while having fun outdoors.

At TVCS, the space has been carefully designed to include:

  • Natural materials for sensory exploration

  • Climbing structures for building strength and coordination

  • Quiet zones for imaginative and reflective play

  • Spaces that encourage teamwork and collaboration.

Some of the key benefits of nature play include:

  • Inspiring creativity and curiosity

  • Encouraging risk-taking and resilience

  • Supporting decision-making and social skills

  • Building stamina, strength and gross motor skills

  • Helping students feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.

“So far our students have loved the new space and being outdoors. It has also helped in the classroom, with students being able to focus during lesson time,” says Emily.

Looking ahead, TVCS plans to add even more opportunities for hands-on learning by introducing loose parts, gardens, and open-ended resources. The aim is to keep growing the space as a vibrant part of everyday school life.

With such a thoughtful and engaging play area now open, it’s clear that learning through nature is thriving at Torrens Valley Christian School.
