The School of the Nativity: A small school with big facilities

Three children in maroon uniforms walking along a path surrounded by greenery.
The year 1982 was one of big thinking and big ideas. Steven Spielberg’s E.T was a worldwide hit in movie theatres, Advance Australia Fair replaced God Save The Queen as our national anthem, blue eyeshadow and shoulder pads were in and the controversial breakfast spread Vegemite, turned 60. So why the nostalgic recap? Well, there was another big thinking idea taking shape in Aberfoyle Park during this time, with the opening of a new schooling set up.

That year, three educational institutions; the Department for Education, Catholic Education South Australia, and the Uniting Church, agreed to establish multiple schools on one campus site. Leading to an educational community which operated independently, they worked together to offer greater opportunity to the local area.

Fast forward to 2025 and while a lot has changed in our world, being a part of Campus is still engrained in how the School of the Nativity operates. They understand that choosing a school is a deeply personal journey and each parent approaches the search in their own way. As part of Campus, Nativity continues offering families a small school feel where their child still has access to large ovals, multiple playgrounds, tennis courts, a Performing Arts Centre, a Kitchen Garden and even an indoor Gym. This creates an environment where students are nurtured and empowered to learn.

The School of the Nativity is immensely proud to continue being a part of this unique story. When you enter the school, some of the buildings may still hark back to the big thinking architecture of 1982 but we believe it’s that big thinking, that commitment to always being curious, being innovative and unique, which makes the School of the Nativity stand out from the crowd. They are committed to crafting students into curious learners who can achieve success at their own pace, who are empowered to thrive and supported in their own big thinking.

Why stepping outside the classroom matters more than ever in middle school

It happens in a moment. A student halfway up a rock face pauses, frozen by fear and doubt. Below, an instructor calmly encourages: “Take a breath, look around, and take the next step.” The student exhales, refocuses, and reaches the top—exhausted, but transformed. These quiet turning points—part challenge, part breakthrough—are common in outdoor education. And for students in the middle years of schooling, they’re more than just powerful memories. They’re moments of growth.
