Between daycare bugs and lingering post-viral coughs, parents are no strangers to juggling sick kids while managing work, family and school runs – often with little time to get to the doctor or clarity on what to do next.
And with sickness being even more prevalent in the colder months, it’s not always clear when a child needs to stay home, see a doctor in person, or simply ride it out – meaning it’s no surprise more parents are turning to telehealth platforms for on-the-spot reassurance.
Dr Jamie Phillips, Updoc’s Chief Medical Officer, a practicing GP and a dad himself, is revealing the top five most common questions he hears from parents on the platform, including:
- Can they go to daycare/school?
- Can I treat this at home?
- Do they need a prescription?
- Should I take them to see someone in person?
- When should I worry about a fever?
Plus, the top 5 most common things he’s observed parents request consults for kids via telehealth:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (coughs, colds and snotty noses)
- School sores
- Rashes
- Constipation or diarrhoea
- Minor fever
These insights come as the general population are increasingly turning to digital healthcare solutions – with Updoc reporting a soaring 630% increase in telehealth consultations from Aussies aged 25-44 in the past 12 months alone.
