Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Come From Away comes to Adelaide

Come from away
Adelaide is being swept away by the globally acclaimed musical, Come From Away, showing at Her Majesty's Theatre now. The show brings to life the awe-inspiring true story that unfolded in the aftermath of September 11th.

The musical is set in Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes carrying almost 7,000 people from over 100 countries were redirected during the traumatic event, nearly doubling the population of the remote Canadian town.

Despite the chaos, the small community of Gander generously opened their homes and hearts to the “come from aways”, demonstrating remarkable hospitality and compassion. The musical, created by award-winning writers David Hein and Irene Sankoff, captures this remarkable spirit of hope and humanity.

Come From Away

The Australian premiere of Come From Away in Melbourne in July 2019 was met with thunderous applause and standing ovations. The production broke box office records and became the most successful production in the Comedy Theatre’s 94-year history.

Come From Away has won numerous accolades, including the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (Christopher Ashley) and Olivier Awards for Best New Musical, Best Theatre Choreographer (Kelly Devine), Best Sound Design (Gareth Owen), and Outstanding Achievement in Music.

Since its Australian premiere in 2019, the production has added five Green Room awards, including Best Production and Best Ensemble, to its list of accolades. It was also voted Ticketmaster’s ‘Ticket of the Year’ by Australian audiences.

The stage is set for Adelaide to experience this remarkable production, with Come From Away bringing its inspiring story to life once again.
