For the Bluey fans

Reading together: Where's Bluey? At Christmas

Bluey: Where’s Bluey? At Christmas

Bluey seems to be the key to every kid’s heart these days, so you can’t go wrong with Where’s Bluey? At Christmas. In this interactive book, parents and kids will search for Bluey and Bingo among many other Christmas surprises. Best of all, kids will even enjoy this book without Mum and Dad, providing the perfect distraction while you tackle that Christmas cooking (or cleaning)!

For little ones

Reading together: Here comes a Merry Christmas

Here Comes a Merry Christmas by Justine Clarke, Heath McKenzie, Arthur Baysting and Peter Dasent

No matter how young your kid is, they’ve probably already been fed Christmas messaging from the Northern Hemisphere – complete with snowmen and reindeer. But over here in Australia, Christmas looks a little bit different. While we’re not knocking the idea of a ‘white Christmas’, there is something surprisingly refreshing about seeing an accurate portrayal of Aussie Christmas. Here Comes a Merry Christmas does just that. Based on the much-loved song by Justine Clarke, the heartwarming tale speaks to the magic of Christmas, while the gorgeous illustrations nod to mid-summer celebrating.

For the junior readers

Reading together: Alice-Miranda and the Christmas Mystery

Alice-Miranda and the Christmas Mystery by Jacqueline Harvey

From bestselling children’s author Jacqueline Harvey comes this Christmas tale starring the beloved Alice-Miranda character. Young readers will love following Alice-Miranda on a Christmas adventure as she attempts to solve some serious mysteries: Why are Christmas decorations disappearing? Why aren’t local stores full of festive treats? And what long-kept family secret is everyone hiding from her?

For teens

Reading together: Murtagh

Murtagh by Christopher Paolini

While teens might not be as inclined to read aloud with parents, you can nevertheless encourage summer reading this Christmas. Whether it looks like each family member reading their own book on the beach or putting a book under the tree for your teen this Christmas, it’s never too late to encourage a love of reading. Our pick? Murtagh by bestselling author Christopher Paolini. Full of action, adventure and dragons – of course – this gripping novel will capture the imagination of any teen.

Happy reading together!
