Movie review: Moana 2

Moana is in the water, holding a paddle.
The much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s Moana has arrived, and it’s every bit as exciting and magical as the first movie.

Moana 2 takes us back to the stunning Pacific Islands and the wide-open ocean, where Moana’s adventures continue, and it’s again packed with thrilling new challenges, unforgettable characters, and catchy songs.

Moana is now a little older and more confident as she takes on her role as the leader of her island, Motunui. The crux of the story is the ocean’s balance is again disturbed. A mysterious force is threatening the harmony of Moana’s world, and it’s up to her, along with the mischievous demigod Maui, to save the day.

Moana and Maui embark on a new journey to find the source of the problem, diving deeper into the ocean than they’ve ever gone before. They encounter exciting new places, strange creatures, and face all sorts of dangers on their way. Along the way, Moana learns more about herself, her strengths, and the responsibility she has as a leader, while Maui gets to show off his famous shapeshifting powers.

The animation in Moana 2 is absolutely stunning. The ocean looks more beautiful than ever, with bright turquoise waters, magical sea creatures, and vibrant islands. You’ll feel like you’re sailing right alongside Moana, with every wave and island brimming with life. The underwater scenes are especially breathtaking, showcasing the beauty and mystery of the ocean in ways that will amaze you.

Of course, one of the best parts of the film is the music! Moana 2 introduces new songs that are just as catchy and memorable as the ones from the first movie. From empowering anthems to heartfelt ballads, the soundtrack is filled with tunes that you’ll want to sing along to again and again. The music really adds to the emotional journey of the film, helping to bring out the deep themes of self-discovery, leadership, and caring for the world around you.

What makes Moana 2 so special is its powerful message about nature, friendship, and finding your true self. Moana shows that being a leader isn’t just about being brave—it’s about being kind, learning from your mistakes, and protecting what you love. This is a film that inspires, entertains, and teaches important lessons in a way that everyone—young and old—can enjoy.
