Forget the bunch of flowers. This Mother’s Day, treat the special woman in your life to a roar-some day out with the whole family, and she gets in absolutely free.
If you are on the hunt for a Mother’s Day plan that goes way beyond breakfast in bed, Adelaide Zoo has just handed you the perfect excuse to get outside. This year, mums and mother figures get complimentary entry to Adelaide Zoo on Sunday 10 May, and trust us, this is one outing the whole family will be talking about long after the day is done.
All Mum has to do is rock up to the admissions window on the day, collect her free ticket, and she’s in. Simple as that. No vouchers to print, no forms to fill in, just a brilliant family adventure waiting on the other side of the gate.
What’s in store for the whole crew
Adelaide Zoo is pulling out all the stops to make this Mother’s Day extra special. Between the wildlife encounters, keeper talks and free-flight bird shows, there is genuinely something for every member of the family, from tinies to teens to grandparents.
The free-flight bird show is a total crowd-pleaser; there’s something about watching a brilliant macaw swoop just overhead that gets every age group gasping and giggling at once. Little ones will absolutely lose their minds.
“A day full of unforgettable wildlife moments – and Mum gets in free.”
Then there’s the tigers. Sumatran Tiger mum Delilah has been raising her three young cubs at Adelaide Zoo, and seeing a big cat mum in action on Mother’s Day feels pretty poetic, doesn’t it? The giant pandas Yi Lan and Xing Qiu are always a highlight too, the keeper talks give you a behind-the-scenes peek at how these incredible animals are cared for, and kids come away absolutely buzzing with facts to share at school on Monday.
Our top tips for a brilliant day
Make the most of it
-
Arrive early to grab a good spot for the free-flight bird show
- Check the daily schedule at the zoo entrance so you don’t miss the Giant Panda keeper talk
- Pack a picnic or grab lunch at one of the zoo cafes, it makes for a lovely mid-day break
- Wear comfy shoes — you’ll cover a lot of ground once the kids spot something exciting
- If you’re a Zoos SA Member, Mum’s ticket is free too, existing members are included
Adelaide Zoo is located right in the heart of the city in the beautiful Botanic Park precinct, making it an easy outing whether you’re coming from the suburbs or making a day of it in the CBD. There’s plenty to explore beyond just the animals, the zoo grounds themselves are gorgeous, especially in autumn.
This is one of those experiences that genuinely creates memories. Not just for Mum, for the whole family. Whether it’s the first time the kids lock eyes with a giant panda, or Mum gets photobombed by a macaw, the magic of spending a morning surrounded by incredible wildlife is hard to beat.
