Explore the fauna and flora in our beautiful city

The City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters is hosting Explore Fauna and Flora in our City these Spring school holidays.

Walk, talk and meet people who are making public spaces biodiverse, animal-attracting and visually appealing from the Norwood Payneham and St Peters community these October school holidays at Explore Fauna and Flora in our City.

With tours at St Peters Billabong (sold out), Borthwick Park, Kent Town and River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri, you‘ll learn about native flora and fauna. Adults and kids alike will love the unique experiences, learning about flowers, trees, birds and greening in urban areas.

Kent Town Verge Garden Tour

Learn the before and after of how to work with your community and Council to green residential streets. Kent Town Residents Association received a grant from Greening Adelaide in 2021 to plant native grasses, bushes and shrubs along Grenfell Street.

This tour will explain the process from inception to implementation and include a 20 minute stroll to view the results 2 years later.

Guided Walks at Borthwick Park

Borthwick Park is a small gem of a park on Second Creek in the heart of Kensington. Over the last dozen years the park has been extensively re-vegetated with native plant species by volunteers below its ancient redgums.

Hear the story of Borthwick Park, from its Kaurna past to its settler history, and how the volunteers of an enthusiastic local community has worked to re-establish its original biodiversity.

Along the River

Connect, discover and engage with nature at Along the River, with friends from Nature Play SA.

Set within Felixstow Reserve, surrounded by majestic river gums, native flora and abundant bird life, wetlands and walking tracks to explore, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

Free activities include:

  • Sunflower bee bombs
  • Bee hotels
  • Tours of the river

 

Take a walk Along the River with a self-guided tour book and hear stories about the rich culture behind this location.
