FIRST LOOK: New works from the country’s most experimental audio-visual artists to debut in Tarntanyangga / Victoria Square this July.

Illuminate Adelaide has announced ORBIT as part of the 2022 program for Electric Playground as part of BASE CAMP in Victoria Square this July.

This immersive audio-visual installation invites audiences to experience a cacophony of cosmic sound inspired by the orbital cycles of our solar system.

Every 365 days, we complete another cycle through space – following an invisible line around the brightest star in the sky. Imagine yourself at the centre of our solar system, conducting an orchestra of matter that surrounds you – a true symphony of the stars.

The work will incorporate immersive surround sound paired with mesmerising beams of light evoking pervasive awe, wonder and excitement in witnessing how these cycles repeat and intersect with each other.

Layers of looping sound play around audiences, representing in scale how planets, moons and stars revolve around our sun.

Soundtrack composed by Motez Obaidi, one of Adelaide’s most renowned music producers, and Mapped Design – a creative studio specialising in tech-driven art and experiences.

Second installation in series

This ambitious project is the second in a series of installation projects between Mapped Design Studio and Motez under the pseudonym Harsh Realities – with the official brand launch to come later this year.

Entry is included with the price of admission for Electric Playground. The work will be housed in a pop-up exhibition space in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, open as per details listed on the BASE CAMP page of the Illuminate website.

Note: this work contains strobe and hazing effects which may not be suitable for some patrons.
