Zoos SA Life Membership: A gift they’ll love for life

There is always something new unfolding at Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park.

One visit might begin with the unmistakable calls of siamangs echoing through the treetops at Adelaide Zoo. Nearby, conservation aviaries offer a rare opportunity to see endangered Orange-bellied Parrots, part of an important program helping secure the future of one of Australia’s rarest birds.

Across the open landscapes of Monarto Safari Park, wildlife stories unfold on a much grander scale. Giraffes stride across vast plains while the park’s growing Asian Elephant herd continues to form new bonds, as individuals gradually come together to build a cohesive family group.

Moments like these don’t happen by chance. They are made possible by the everyday people who support Zoos SA and its conservation work.

At Zoos SA, members are often described as part of the zoo family, and for good reason. As a not-for-profit conservation charity, member support helps care for more than 3,000 animals while funding breeding and conservation programs that protect species from extinction.

Few people understand that connection better than 86-year-old Lorraine Kernick, who has been a Zoos SA Life Member since the early 1970s.

Today, seven members of Lorraine’s family are Life Members, including children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The newest recruit is four-year-old Jude.

“Jude is just so excited to become a member. He proudly wears his membership card and lanyard every time we visit,” Lorraine said.

“My husband Colin and I loved spending time at the zoo together. Some of the best days we’ve had have been when our whole family can come together at Adelaide Zoo or Monarto Safari Park and just enjoy the day.”

For Lorraine, the zoo has always been about more than seeing animals. It is about sharing time together, learning about wildlife and passing that passion on to the next generation.

A Zoos SA Life Membership offers unlimited entry to Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park, along with discounts on experiences and free single entry to most major zoos across Australia. A transferable bonus pass also allows another adult or two children to join each visit, making it easy to share the experience with family and friends.

The result is a lifetime of discovery, where families grow up alongside extraordinary animals, deepen their connection with nature and create memories that last for generations.
