Plastic-free PJs: The newest South Australian sleepwear brand

As plastic-free July gathers momentum across Australia, many families are rethinking the everyday products they bring into their homes. But while the focus often falls on lunchboxes, drink bottles, and food packaging, one South Australian mum is turning attention to a less obvious culprit: kids’ pyjamas.

“When I first discovered that most kids’ sleepwear contains polyester and synthetic fibres, I was shocked,” says Kirby, founder of Inspired by Nature SA, an organic sleepwear brand for kids aged 8–12.

“Pyjamas are worn for up to 14 hours every single night—longer than any other item of clothing. And yet most contain plastic.”

Motivated by her own family’s journey toward healthier, low-tox living, Kirby created Inspired by Nature SA as a response to the hidden plastics and chemicals in mainstream children’s sleepwear. Every garment in the range is made from 100% certified organic cotton—free from polyester, plastic fibres, and chemical treatments.

“Plastic Free July is the perfect time to look beyond the obvious swaps,” Kirby explains. “The clothing our kids wear—especially in bed, when their bodies are resting and recovering—deserves just as much attention.”

Inspired by Nature SA’s sleepwear isn’t just plastic-free. It’s designed with intention: soft, calming colour palettes, gender-specific fits, and timeless styles that grow with kids and can be handed down. It’s also made in small runs, with eco-conscious packaging and a deep commitment to transparency.

Key features include:

  • 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton
  • No plastic, polyester, or blended fibres
  • Made specifically for kids aged 8–12
  • Small batch, Australian-designed
  • Breathable, gentle, and durable for wash-and-wear’

For Kirby, the brand’s purpose goes beyond product. “We’re helping families create safer sleep rituals. Our PJs support growing bodies and calm busy minds—all without compromising on health, comfort, or sustainability.”

With more parents prioritising toxin-free living, Inspired by Nature SA is proud to be part of a bigger shift—one where plastic-free isn’t just about what’s in your fridge or pantry, but what’s against your child’s skin.

Because safe, sustainable sleep should be the standard—not the exception.
