GOT YOU | Pre-packed, postpartum recovery bags, minus the BS

If we mums can agree on anything, it’s that no woman needs to walk (or waddle) into labour and the messy uncertainty of the postpartum weeks feeling underprepared, or overwhelmed. Enter, Got You; a postpartum, mum-focused brand that offers both pre-packed hospital bags and essentials. This not-so-typical hospital bag is designed to hold your hand through the ups and downs of pregnancy, labour and the fourth trimester. It’s a bag designed to empower, educate and actually deliver the goods, when push comes to shove.

Tell us about where the idea for Got You originated!

At 22, I became a first time mum to my son Charlie. I was laser-focused on what products I needed to get through labour and genuinely thought that once bubs was here I would be back to my old self. Fast forward 5 hours postpartum and I quickly realised that wouldn’t be the case. Due to my lack of knowledge I had an awful recovery experience. 3 years later I gave birth to my daughter Mila and this time I was focused on preparing my mind, my home and my hospital bag with everything I needed to combat every issue I had previously and the experience was a world away from my first. Next it was my sister’s turn to have a baby, and this is when the idea for Got You was really born. I told her I’d make her hospital bag for labour and recovery. I got the best products available at the time and created a pack with sticky notes attached to each product giving her my honest-to-god truths about labour and recovery plus how to best use each product. To see her so prepared and confident about her recovery and then absolutely nail it really inspired me to create a brand that could provide this for other women.

Your hero product is your not-so-typical hospital bag, tell us about it, and what makes it not-so-typical!

Our bag includes everything mum needs for the best labour, birth and recovery experience possible. Everything from your essential toiletries, to your recovery staples such as a peri bottle and recovery bath salts. One thing we always hear from our customers is ‘you’ve really thought of everything!’. When creating Got You it was a priority to me that our bags would deliver not only the products but would also be supportive and informative. I wanted it to feel like a (raw, honest, hilarious) best friend in a bag. Each of our staple products within the bag are boxed in packaging that includes information on the product, how to use, fun tips and recovery advice and also QR codes that our customers can scan to learn more on our blog.

Do you actually have products developed specifically for Got You?

We sure did! We had two non-negotiables when it came to our products. Firstly they had to be superior to anything we’d previously used and secondly we did not want to add a hefty mark-up to our bags in order to meet profit margins. I never wanted my customers to pay for the convenience. In order to meet both of these goals we decided to manufacture our own products so we had complete control over product quality and pricing to serve our customers best. This meant endless sample orders, tweaking and re-tweaking designs and tons of feedback until we nailed it. We worked on Got You for almost two entire years before finally launching.

What are your absolute essential MUST HAVE postpartum products included in all your Got You hospital bags?

If I had to walk into the labour room with one thing, it would hands down be the Perineal Ice-pack. What I love about these is they can be heated to reduce the risk of tearing during the ‘pushing’ stage of labour and also used frozen after birth to help with any pain and swelling down there. A close second would be the Peri Bottle, we’ve nicknamed it our little ‘firefighter’ for when you pee ha!
