Built to spark joy
Co-founders Alana Tiller and Chris Kontos launched Goldie + Ace in 2017 with one simple philosophy: to create durable, high-quality children’s clothing built to spark joy. As the brand’s designer, Alana is inspired by memories of a simpler time; of growing up in Australia in the ‘80s and ‘90s and of the pieces she loved to wear, fondly remembered in family photo albums from that time.
Building on this design philosophy, The Weekender draws on the spirit of childhood trips to small Australian towns back in the ‘80s. For Alana, warm layers in lively colours and fun-loving patters were always packed in the overnight bag for family adventures, and these pieces are lovingly reflected in the Melbourne brand’s joyful new collection.
To recreate the nostalgia of those special weekends away, the Goldie + Ace team – along with photographer Anitra Wells, videographer Alexandrena Parker and stylist Stephanie Tamir – travelled to the small rural community of Nathalia in northern Victoria to capture the new-season range. The local motel, built in 1979, held happy playground memories for designer Alana, and served as the perfect location for the shoot. The team even recruited 10 local kids from the area via a social media callout to star in this playful and community-centric campaign.
