Gelato Bello celebrates 30 years with $3 scoops and retro flavours

One of Adelaide's most loved gelaterias is turning 30, and they're celebrating with 1996 prices, nostalgic flavours, and a weekend of sweet memories at Glynde.

If your family has ever queued at Gelato Bello on a warm evening, you’re part of a 30-year story. The beloved Glynde gelateria is celebrating three decades of serving authentic Sicilian-style gelato with a special anniversary weekend on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October.

For the first 100 customers each day, scoops will be available at the original 1996 price of just $3. Everyone else can enjoy 30 per cent off all gelato across the weekend, with extended trading hours from 1pm to 11pm.

A taste of nostalgia

The celebration is a proper trip down memory lane. Gelato Bello is bringing back some of its most iconic flavours from the past three decades, including Golden Gaytime, Banana Cream Pie, Cherry Ripe and Lemon Meringue Pie.

There’ll also be vintage displays of original cups, packaging and gelato spoons, with staff dressed in the original Gelato Bello uniforms. It’s the kind of wholesome throwback that makes you realise how many summers have been marked by a scoop (or three).

Three generations of gelato lovers

Gelato Bello was established in 1996 by the Albuino family after they immigrated from Sicily. They opened with just eight flavours and a commitment to traditional gelato-making. Today, under the stewardship of the Nardone family, the business offers more than 40 flavours to loyal customers across South Australia.

Owner Marcus Nardone said the milestone was a chance to celebrate both the business’ roots and the generations of families who’ve supported the store.

“Many of our customers first came to Gelato Bello as children and are now bringing in their own families,” Marcus said. “We wanted to create a celebration that honours the memories people have of the store while showcasing how far we’ve come.”

“For one weekend only, we’ll be stepping back in time with our classic flavours, original packaging and even some of our team wearing the original uniforms. It’s our way of celebrating the Gelato Bello story.”

Local to the core

Gelato Bello remains committed to the traditional Sicilian methods established by its founders, with approximately 95 per cent of ingredients sourced locally. That includes nuts from the Adelaide Hills, milk and cream from South Australian dairy farmers, and fresh fruit from local markets.

Beyond the Glynde retail store, Gelato Bello now operates an events service with a popular gelati cart, catering for over 200 events throughout summer, including festivals, weddings and community celebrations. A new offering focused on authentic, freshly served tiramisu is also on the way.
