What if your next family adventure didn’t require a passport, just a sense of curiosity and a love of chocolate?
Tchocolatl is a joyful, interactive theatre experience that takes children and their grown-ups on a fun and educational journey around the globe in search of the origins of one of the world’s favourite treats — chocolate. Presented at Adelaide Fringe 2026, the show invites families to travel from country to country through storytelling, clowning and audience participation.
At the heart of the performance is Pa the Traveller Clown, cute, clumsy and endlessly curious. Pa takes audiences on an interactive quest to discover where chocolate comes from, meeting cultures, traditions and surprises along the way. With plenty of laughs, moments of wonder and direct engagement with the audience, children are encouraged to join in as Pa’s adventures unfold on stage.
Designed to appeal to all ages, Tchocolatl cleverly blends education with entertainment. Children learn about the history of chocolate and the places it comes from while being completely swept up in the silliness and charm of clowning. The show sparks curiosity, encourages questions and keeps young minds engaged long after the final bow.
Behind Pa the Traveller Clown is Pamela Pilawa, a Swiss clown whose life mirrors the adventurous spirit of the show itself. Pamela has lived and travelled extensively across the world, including Chile, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Italy and now Australia. Her love of travel and storytelling shines on stage, bringing an authentic sense of global connection to the performance.
Pamela’s warm presence and positive energy create a welcoming space where children feel confident to laugh, participate and explore new ideas. Parents will appreciate the gentle humour, cultural storytelling and meaningful messages woven throughout, making Tchocolatl a shared experience that resonates across generations.
Audience responses reflect the show’s ability to truly engage young viewers. “I just had the best time, and watching my boys so engaged was amazing,” shared one school audience member, while another parent noted, “My daughter was so inspired.” As one reviewer put it, “My 7-year-old daughter loved it. Pa was so funny that it made me forget everything, and I had as much fun as the little kids.”
If you’re looking for a family-friendly Fringe experience that is educational, interactive and guaranteed to leave everyone smiling, Tchocolatl is a sweet treat not to be missed.
