10 ways to survive Black Friday 2025 with kids in Adelaide

Girl holds shopping bags.
Black Friday can feel like an Olympic sport for parents — crowds, queues, sales signs everywhere, and kids who would much rather be eating snacks than standing in line. But, with a little planning and a few clever tricks, you can survive (and even enjoy!) Black Friday with little ones in tow!

Here’s how to keep stress low and spirits high on the biggest shopping day of the year!

1. Go early, go late — or go online

Crowds are smaller first thing in the morning or later at night. If your kids are early risers or night owls, this is your moment. Too hard? Skip the chaos and shop the deals online — pyjamas encouraged.

2. Pack a “Black Friday Survival Kit”

Include:

  • Snacks (the crunchy kind… and the bribery kind)

  • Water bottles

  • Mini colouring book

  • A small toy

  • Headphones/tablet for emergency entertainment

A busy kid = a happy parent.

3. Turn it into a game

Kids love a mission! Try:

  • “Spot the sale sign”

  • “Find three red tags”

  • “Help Mum/Dad find the blue box”

They stay engaged, you shop in peace — everyone wins.

4. Set expectations before you go

Explain the plan: where you’re going, how long it’ll take, and what’s expected. A little prep goes a long way in avoiding the “BUT I WANT THAT NOW!” moment.

5. Bring the pram or carrier (even for bigger kids)

Black Friday = tired legs.

A pram doubles as:

  • A seat

  • A snack station

  • A trolley

  • A meltdown prevention device

No shame. Total lifesaver.

6. Shop kid-friendly stores first

Hit the toy, book, or craft stores early while your kids are still fresh. Leave the boring grown-up shops for last (or skip them entirely).

7. Take regular “fun breaks”

Every 60–90 minutes, stop for something enjoyable:

  • A treat

  • A playground run

  • A browse at a fun store

  • A quick lunch

These breaks reset everyone’s mood (including yours).

8. Stick to a plan (Black Friday is not the day to browse!)

Make a list of must-buy items. Get in, get out, get home. The kids will thank you — and so will your sanity.

9. Divide and conquer

If possible, one adult shops while the other keeps kids entertained with:

  • A playground visit

  • The food court

  • A kids’ activity at the shopping centre

Then swap! Everyone gets a turn and no one gets overwhelmed.

10. Celebrate success at the end

Finish the adventure with something fun: ice cream, a movie, or a play at the park. It helps kids associate the day with fun — not just shopping.

Black Friday + Kids = Totally Doable

With the right strategies, Black Friday doesn’t have to be stressful. It can even be a fun family outing — full of bargains, quick wins, and plenty of snacks.

You’ve got this, parents. Bring on the deals!
