Big hearts and bright colours: Hospital School SA Kids shine in My Art, My SA

A special new exhibition, My Art, My SA, is giving students from Hospital School South Australia the chance to see their work celebrated in a public space — and share their uniquely South Aussie stories through art.

Backed by Credit Union SA and hosted at its head office on King William Street, My Art, My SA will run until 30 August, showcasing powerful and colourful creations by kids aged 3 to 17.

Every piece offers a snapshot of how young people see their state — from favourite landmarks and hometown pride to reflections on their own journeys.

A stage for brave, creative young voices

Hospital School SA Principal Matthew McCurry says the exhibition is a meaningful milestone for students, many of whom are navigating serious health challenges while continuing to learn and grow through the school’s hospital campuses.

“We’re thrilled to see our students’ creativity celebrated through the My Art, My SA exhibition at Credit Union SA. Just as Hospital School SA supports young people across the state, Credit Union SA’s support of our school community has been deeply appreciated.

“It’s a powerful moment for our students to see their artwork on display—sharing their perspectives and talents with South Australia,” Matthew said.

What is Hospital School SA?

Hospital School South Australia is a unique partnership between the Department for Education and SA Health, delivering classroom experiences within three of the state’s major hospitals — the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Lyell McEwin Hospital.

It supports students who are unable to attend their regular school due to health issues, offering targeted, personalised learning to help them stay connected and feel supported. The program recently celebrated 90 years of teaching at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital — a true testament to its legacy of care and education.

Art that Heals — and inspires

The exhibition is the latest chapter in the partnership between Credit Union SA and Hospital School SA. Earlier this year, as part of its inaugural School Impact Program, Credit Union SA provided funding for the first-ever outdoor learning space at the Flinders Medical Centre campus — a huge milestone in the school’s 49-year history.

The new outdoor area has transformed an unused part of the hospital into a dedicated place for learning, play and calm — a space for students, families and staff to connect, unwind and explore beyond the hospital walls.

A celebration of SA pride

Credit Union SA CEO Todd Roberts says supporting the exhibition just made sense.

“We’re so pleased to co-host this upcoming exhibition that explores South Australian stories and talent. It was only fitting that we support an exhibition that explores what it means to live in this beautiful state and makes us proud of the place we call home.

The team behind Hospital School SA does a sensational job of continuing normalcy for their students who are facing health challenges. Artwork is a great creative outlet for these students and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have produced,” Todd said.
