This school holiday season, the museums of the History Trust of South Australia are brimming with exciting activities for all ages. Whether you're a fan of LEGO® treasure hunts, creative workshops, or thrilling car races, there’s something for everyone across the various museums.

At the South Australian Maritime Museum, young adventurers can embark on the Seafarer’s LEGO® Trail, a fun-filled treasure hunt where they’ll follow clues to uncover fascinating facts about sailing vessels and the seafarers who navigated them. Along the way, children will spot hidden LEGO® minifigures and work to solve a secret word puzzle, with the chance to win an amazing LEGO® prize for their efforts. For those interested in filmmaking, the GooRoo Animation Workshops will be a hit! These workshops introduce children to the art of stop-motion filmmaking, where they can create their very own claymation movies using the Stop Motion Studio App. Best of all, their finished films will be uploaded to the GooRoo Animation YouTube channel, so they can share their creations with family and friends.

Families and friends can race each other on a large Scalextric slot car track, with sessions running throughout the holidays and included in the price of admission. 

Meanwhile, the National Motor Museum offers a high-speed adventure with Scalextric Racing. The museum is also hosting the LEGO® Trail: Racing through History, where children can search for eight hidden racing vehicles scattered throughout the exhibits. Solving the puzzle and revealing the secret word could win them one of three fantastic LEGO® prizes. For budding filmmakers, the museum is also offering GooRoo Animation Workshops, where children can dive into the world of stop-motion movies, using LEGO® to bring their imaginations to life. Like the Maritime Museum workshops, the finished films will be uploaded to YouTube for easy sharing.

Over at the Migration Museum, kids can explore the Nature LEGO® Trail, hunting for hidden LEGO® figures and letters throughout the museum’s exhibits. Once the puzzle is solved, they’ll have the chance to win fabulous LEGO® prizes. The Migration Museum is also hosting the Nature Festival – Spring Light: Lantern Making Workshops, where participants can celebrate the beauty of light in nature by crafting their very own lanterns. Using natural and recycled materials, children will create decorative lanterns to take home, each one a reflection of their artistic vision.

With so much to choose from, these school holidays promise plenty of fun, creativity, and learning at the History Trust of South Australia’s museums.

Upcoming event: Bay to Birdwood

Looking ahead, be sure to mark Sunday, October 20 in your calendar for the iconic Bay to Birdwood event. Over 1,500 historic vehicles will travel from West Beach to Birdwood in a breathtaking parade that starts at 8:15 AM. The fun doesn’t stop there—head to the Finish Festival at the National Motor Museum, where gourmet food, drinks, vintage fashion, and up-close views of the incredible vehicles await. To make things even more special, this year’s festival is offering 90s-style admission prices, making it an affordable day out for the whole family.
