The brand is named in honour of her muse and son, Sebastian. “I came up with the idea when I was pregnant with Sebastian,” explains Jess. “I love the crisp and refined aesthetic of home interiors and wanted to create a calm sensory experience in my nursery for him.”
“We always knew what we were going to name our son, so I began looking for tailored, high-quality products early. This is when I noticed a gap in the market when it came to children’s blankets and the product I desired. I wanted something personalised, minimalist but also something that felt luxurious and would last for years,” Jess states.
From here, she began sampling designs and leathers, but personal reasons forced her to pause the project entirely.
“When I became a single mum, it became too difficult. Sadly, I didn’t have the capacity to do both… but I never stopped thinking about it; the idea was always there in the back of my mind.”
Four years later, Jess recognised that a significant demand remained unmet in this space. With her brother’s support, they collaborated to bring Something Sebastian to fruition.
“I am beyond excited to bring this brand to market,” Jess shares. “My brother and I have always been extremely close but after he moved from interstate to help raise my son when I became a newly single mum, our bond grew even stronger.
“Having lost both our parents to cancer, we are each other’s family. He has been an integral part of mine and my son’s life over the past three and a half years, and I couldn’t think of a better venture to go on together.”
Something Sebastian blankets are carefully crafted with 100% organic cotton and 100% leather tags in an opulent ribbed knit fabrication, offering unparalleled comfort for chilly days and nights.
For Jess and Cain, though, this brand is about far more than functional capacity.
For me, baby blankets are that one product that instantly take me back to my newborn days. I still have my son’s baby blankets; I can’t bring myself to get rid of them.
“Every feed, late night, early walk and cuddle with your new baby are wrapped in a blanket. We’d love to be a part of that journey with every parent and let their Something Sebastian blanket be the time capsule to those precious moments.”
Enhancing its market position further is the personalised touch that accompanies each blanket. The first range of Something Sebastian blankets has four colour ways: cream, sage, dusty pink and grey.
“We wanted to make a timeless keepsake for new families and their bubs. Personalising them was the perfect way to do that, as was offering our first range in muted tones that will never date,” Jess says.
While Jess hints that a non-personalised version may become available in future collections, she emphasises that it was a conscious decision to not include this option in the debut line.
“The newborn stage is such a special time; we really wanted to make it even more special by producing bespoke pieces uniquely personalised for your child,” Jess explains.
“Some families are opting for initials as a more minimalist type of personalisation, or even a surname. That way, your Something Sebastian blanket can be a cherished memento passed on for years to come.”
