West Beach Parks unveils $2.9 million community square and play space

A new public square and open space will be developed on the West Beach coastline, providing facilities for community events, recreation and play, nestled among natural vegetation.

Set on the unique coastal precinct of West Beach Parks, Adelaide’s newest community gathering place will include a kiosk, playground, shelter, and other amenities.

The Square at West Beach Parks is being developed and funded by West Beach Parks, supported by a $1.45m State Government grant under the Planning and Development Fund.

Designed by Studio Nine Architects, The Square at West Beach Parks will re-establish the site with natural vegetation and connect the local and broader community to the West Beach Parks precinct.

Construction on the Square will begin this month, with completion expected later this year.

West Beach Trust Chair Jane Jeffreys said, “The Square at West Beach Parks is a beachside community open space encouraging connection to nature, to play and to community for the enjoyment and wellbeing of everyone.

“It will be the heart of the West Beach Parks precinct and is aligned to our Master Plan, linking visitors to the area’s unrivalled diversity of natural, recreational, community and sporting activities.”

Housing and Urban Development Planning Minister Nick Champion said, “The State Government is partnering with West Beach Parks to deliver a new public space that will create a more liveable, sustainable and healthy community.

“This is a key commitment to encourage more people to get outdoors and be active in the community.”
