What’s On for Kids at World Environment Fair 2018

World Environment Fair

| Sat & Sun, 2-3 June, Adelaide Showground 10:00am – 5:00pm | U18 FREE

Put on your best climbing shoes and get ready for all things creepy, crawly, slimy and hairy, because Adelaide will host its second World Environment Fair this June and there is a huge focus on nature play and kids.

This years Fair will see the largest ever constructed indoor nature play area, a Nylon Zoo Turtle, hands on educational exhibits and more!

Today, our kids are raised in a world of iPads, smartphones, computers and machines, making it even more crucial to expose them to nature and shape their appreciation for the environment from a young age.

Our little ones won’t remember a day playing Minion Rush on the iPad, but they will remember adventures to their favourite park or an experience like the World Environment Fair.

The fair will combine lots of interactive components in order to stimulate children’s interest and create a fun, educational atmosphere, but that’s not all!

Ambassador and headline speaker Craig Reucassel (War on Waste) along with Ranger Stacey Thomson (Totally Wild) will share their passion for tackling all things waste and protecting our native environment.

There will also be more than 30 other speakers and 85 exhibitors.

Here’s what’s on for kids:

LARGEST INDOOR NATURE PLAY

World Environment Fair has commissioned Simon Hutchinson from Climbing Tree to construct the largest indoor nature play area in Australia. Having purpose built nature play spaces for Womadelaide, Simon’s World Environment Fair project is one of his biggest yet.

THE NOCTARIUM

Come and visit the Noctarium. Using a reverse cycle of lighting, visitors will be able to view dunnarts, hopping mice, plains rats, possums, potoroos, frogmouth, curlews, geckos, pythons, death adder, tree snakes, frogs, eel, spiders, scorpions and stick insects active during the day.

ANIMALS ANONYMOUS

Animals Anonymous is an Australian Native Animal Show that will allow you to take a close look at some awesome Australian native animals, including a baby crocodile, pythons, a bettong, a squirrel glider, a boobook owl, dragons, geckos, goannas and much more!

REPTILE DISPLAY

See lizards in a lizard pit, including bluetongues and shinglebacks skinks and bearded dragons! There will even be a python tree just near the Noctarium.

BUGS & SLUGS

The Bugs & Slugs exhibit is a hands on interactive experience and designed to foster the appreciation of invertebrate, biology, diversity, form, function and unique beauty. Whether its insects, spiders, lobsters, worms or snails they are all very important to the eco system.

ROCK ABOUT FREE ROCK CLIMBING

This year the World Environment Fair will offer FREE rock climbs for kids. The walls are designed for young and old so adults can jump on too!
