As summer approaches, swim safety is on all of our minds. VACSWIM is South Australia's most renowned summer holiday program giving participants aged 3 to 12 confidence in and around the water. Now is the time to book your kiddos in for their summer swim sessions...

Delivered as 5-day blocks across the December and January school holidays, VACSWIM offers the perfect opportunity for kids to improve their skills and confidence in the water, and have a whole lot of fun while they’re doing it.

VACSWIM is offered at over 100 locations around metro and regional SA in pools and in the open water, including beaches, lakes and rivers. Check out the VACSWIM locations page for a list of the locations and dates and pick a waterway for your kids to master. Kids can even participate in more than one block across the VACSWIM season!

With preschool-level 2 sessions running for 45 minutes each day and level 3 and above running for an hour, participants will grow their confidence each day and build on their water safety knowledge and rescue skills each year as they advance through the program.

VACSWIM class types

This season VACSWIM are offering a variety of classes for children aged 3-15 years. It’s important children are enrolled in the correct level to make the most out of their experience.

Pre School (3-4 years)

These classes are designed to familiarise your little ones with the water in a supportive and controlled environment.

Levels 1 – 7 (recommended* 5-12 years)

These levels are the traditional VACSWIM levels, to review the levels and the skills covered in each program familiarise yourself with the level guide.

*Please keep in mind ages for levels 1-7 are recommended and a guide only.

Intro2VACSWIM (9-12 years)

For those who are new to VACSWIM and have little to no swimming and water safety experience, VACSWIM are offering an Intro2VACSWIM program.

Children will undertake the learnings of level 1 and 2 with others their own age to help build confidence in and around the water.

Do you have older kids interested in VACSWIM?

As an extension to the VACSWIM program, Surf Life Saving SA are offering higher awards to recognise and assist emergency situations in and around the water.

Basic Water Rescues (12-13 years)
Community Surf Rescue and Community Pool Rescue (13 – 15 years).

These non-accredited courses are delivered as 1-hour classes across 5-days and will be offered at select locations across the state.

The VACSWIM program is a South Australian government funded program for children aged 3 to 12 years, and thanks to the subsidy from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, the iconic water safety initiative VACSWIM remains affordable for your kids to join the fun.

Wilbur’s Wildlife Discovery Centre returns to District Outlet Centre for the Summer School Holidays. The Wilbur’s Wildlife Discovery Centre is the ultimate animal experience allowing you to pat and hold a range of snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, possums and more. For just $10 a ticket, kids can enjoy a live Wildlife Show (yes, they can hold a snake!), and step into the world of zookeepers, vets and dinosaurs in the hands-on Activity Zone. It’s the perfect mix of fun, learning and animal adventures. New for the summer school holidays is a 6 hole mini golf course and keep an eye out for the dinosaur puppet roaming the centre.
