Make a difference one step at a time on National Walk Safely to School Day

National walk to School safely day
Get your walking shoes ready, because National Walk Safely to School Day is back on Friday 19 May.

Primary schools across South Australia are encouraged to participate in this fantastic community initiative. The Pedestrian Council of Australia champions the event, which aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport, and environmental benefits that regular walking or alternative active transport can provide, especially to and from school.

This year marks the 24th anniversary of National Walk Safely to School Day. The initiative doesn’t just apply to 19 May, but to every day, making it a great opportunity to encourage children to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle. It’s also a chance to promote reduced car-dependency, greater use of public transport, cleaner air, improved diets, and road safety to primary school children throughout Australia.

Being active every day, including walking to school, can make a significant difference for many Australians. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or carer, everyone has a role to play in helping children and young people lead active and healthy lives. Encourage children to build regular walking into their daily routine by walking to, during, and from school.

The event is open to all primary schools across South Australia. So, lace up your walking shoes, and join this national initiative to get children walking, promoting healthy living, and reducing car-dependency.
