Emily Korir, activist, entrepreneur and South Australian icon-in-the-making launches her first book – a memoir chronicling her unusual and surprising life defined by defying all expectations and thriving after disability.
The book, Against All Odds, is being launched with a gala event on March 8 2022, International Women’s Day, in Adelaide, where guest speakers will also be honouring the importance of rising up in the face of adversity, and the need for change-makers like Korir to continue pushing the boundaries to empower not just individuals, but communities.
‘The opportunity to impact someone else’s life with my story is one I am incredibly grateful for. Being raised by a single mother in Kenya, leaving home to pursue education in a foreign environment, suffering a stroke at a young age and going through the journey of the long recovery – these are just some of the challenges that have shaped my perspective on facing obstacles – and overcoming them,” said Korir.
“The launch of my memoir is an incredible milestone for me. One that I never thought would be possible following my stroke. I am honoured to be able to share my story, and hope it will resonate with anyone who has ever felt marginalised. If I can help drive even the smallest bit of change to improve the lives of others, that will be a big achievement,” she said.
The book launch will take place on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, in Adelaide at the Hilton Hotel. The gala will feature African song & dance, special performances, guest speakers and a three course dining experience. This event is open to the public.
