Silly Science with Simon: How to make oobleck that dances and glows in the dark

SILLY SCIENCE WITH SIMON: Have you heard of Oobleck? It’s a type of slime made from cornflour and water. It’s not quite a solid and not quite a liquid… so what is it?! Silly scientist Simon shows us how to make dancing, glow in the dark slime.

Have you heard of Oobleck? It’s a type of slime made from cornflour and water. It’s not quite a solid and not quite a liquid… so what is it?!

Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid. It acts like a solid when you apply pressure to it, and acts like a liquid when you take that pressure away!

SILLY SCIENCE WITH SIMON

You can make Oobleck at home by mixing the following in a bowl:

  • 2 cups of cornflour
  • 3/4 cup of water (add up to 1/4 cup of extra water, until it flows when you tip the bowl)
  • 20 drops of food colouring!

Once you’ve made it, roll up your sleeves and test it out! Try hitting the Oobleck with your hands – does it feel like a solid? Try gently lowering your hands into it – does it feel like a liquid? How cool is this stuff?!
